XL2001: Computer Stops Responding When You Click the Desktop from Worksheet (270090)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac, when you click the desktop (to switch to the Finder), your computer stops responding.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the Show Desktop when in background check box in the General Controls control panel is cleared.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior and regain control of your computer, click the worksheet repeatedly until the computer starts to respond again. You may need to click the worksheet up to twenty-five times. No data is lost when you do this.

To prevent this behavior from happening again, open the General Controls control panel, and then click to select the Show Desktop when in background check box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac.
