XL2001: Count Data Is Not Refreshed After Data Changes in List (270081)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q270081

SYMPTOMS

If a list is created from the results of a query and a counter is added, and then rows are inserted in the list, the numbering provided by the counter may not be correct after you refresh the data.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because original data from the query replaces any modified data when the query is refreshed. Because the counter is not a part of the original query, it is not updated.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, do not update the results of a query, but always update the data in the original database.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
