256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

SYMPTOMS

When you try to restore the Outlook Today page back to the default, both the Restore Defaults and the Browse buttons are disabled or dimmed in the Outlook Today Properties dialog box.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the custom Outlook Today page overrides the default with an additional registry key.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this behavior, edit the registry to remove the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) value.
  1. Exit all programs.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regedit and then click OK.
  4. Locate and click the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Webview\Mailbox

  5. Click Mailbox.
  6. On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File to export the Mailbox key to your desktop.
  7. In the Name column, right-click URL or CustomURL, and then click Delete.
  8. Restart your computer, and then restart Outlook.
  9. The registry value that stores the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) that references the Outlook Today page may be located in one of several locations in the Windows registry. If the key listed in step 4 does not exist, repeat steps 5 to 8 after you first locate one of the following registry keys:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Today

    IHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Webview\Mailbox

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Webview\MailboxHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Webview\Mailbox
