The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 6
- Microsoft Works Suite 2001
This article was previously published under Q269979 SYMPTOMS
When you click a file listed on the History tab of the Microsoft Works Task Launcher, you may receive the following message
The Works Task Launcher cannot open the file you selected. The file may have been deleted or moved. To remove this file from the list, click the file name with the right mouse button, and then click Delete.
and the file does not open.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
- You are using a computer with the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system.
- The file was created by an administrator.
- The file was saved to a folder that only the administrator has access to.
- You are not logged on to the computer as the administrator.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, log on to the computer as the administrator whenever you use Microsoft Works or Microsoft Works Suite. Microsoft Works was not intended to be used in a multi-user environment and access or permissions issues can occur whenever the user is not logged on as the administrator.
