The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q269932

SYMPTOMS

You can add command buttons to customized Microsoft Word 2001 toolbars and include any of the commands that are available. When you add any of the following commands

MailMergeInsertIf
MailMergeInsertMergeRec
MailMergeInsertMergeSeq
MailMergeInsertNext
MailMergeInsertNextIf

to a toolbar, nothing appears to happen when you click them.

RESOLUTION

These commands are available on the Data Merge Manager under Word Field. To insert them into a merge document, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Data Merge Manager.
  2. On the Data Merge Manager, under Word Field, click and drag the command you want onto the merge document.

WORKAROUND

To be able to click one of these commands, customize a toolbar to include the commands you want, and then position the toolbar over the main document window. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.
  2. In the Customize dialog box, on the Commands tab, under Categories, click All Commands. Under Commands, scroll until you find the command you want. Click this command and drag it to the target toolbar.
  3. Repeat step 2 until you have included all the commands you want on the toolbar, and then click OK.
  4. Drag the toolbar so that the buttons are over the main document window. Click the command buttons in order to insert the fields that you want in the merge document.
NOTE: This workaround is necessary only for the five commands listed at the beginning of this article.
