OFF2001: Company Name Is Changed in the Address Book Personal ID Contact (269911)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Entourage 2001 for Mac
  • Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q269911

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Entourage 2001, when you open the personal ID contact in the address book, the information that you typed in the Company field may be changed.

NOTE: The personal ID is an address book contact that is automatically created by Microsoft Office. The personal ID contact contains the user information that was provided during the initial registration process.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true and are undertaken in the order listed:
  1. When you first set up your computer, you type a company name in the Registration dialog box.
  2. You install Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac, and the first program that you start is Microsoft Entourage.

The personal ID contact entry is automatically created in the Entourage address book.
  3. You manually change the personal ID contact entry, using a new company name.
  4. You start Microsoft Word 2001 and create a new document. At this point, you change the company name back to the name that you initially typed in the Registration dialog box.
NOTE: This issue occurs only once, when you first start Word. After the company name information has been corrected, Office does not change this information again.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, after Word 2001 has been started at least once, open the address book in Entourage, and then change the company information in your personal ID contact.

Office does not change this information again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac.
