SYMPTOMS

If you install Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac on a computer that also has Office 98 Macintosh Edition installed, and then you open a file with one of the Office 98 Macintosh Edition programs (including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel 98), when you point to Send To on the File menu, there may be no option for sending the file as e-mail.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you start Microsoft Entourage and click Yes when asked "Do you want Microsoft Entourage to be your default e-mail program?"

Office 98 does not support the use of Entourage to send e-mail.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:

Use Microsoft Outlook Express As Your Default E-Mail Program

If you need to send e-mail by using one of the Office 98 programs, select Outlook Express as your default e-mail program; to do so, follow these steps:
  1. Start Outlook Express.
  2. When the Outlook Express Setup Assistant appears, click to select the I want to use Outlook Express as my main (default) e-mail program check box.
  3. Follow the instructions to complete the Outlook Express setup.
  4. Start the appropriate Office 98 program, and then open the file that you want to send as e-mail.
  5. On the File menu, point to Send To, and then click Mail Recipient.

Outlook Express starts, and a new message is created that includes your file as an attachment.

Use Microsoft Office 2001 to Send E-Mail

You can use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel 2001 for Mac to send e-mail from Entourage; to do so, follow these steps:
  1. Close the Office 98 version of your file, and then open the file using one of the Office 2001 programs.
  2. On the File menu, point to Send To, and then click Mail Recipient as Attachment.

Entourage starts, and a new message is created that includes your file as an attachment.
