OFF2001: Alternate Install Location of Office Value Pack Cannot Be Selected (269899)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Microsoft Office 2001 Value Pack, you cannot change the installation location. You may have chosen to install Office 2001 on the secondary partition, and now you want to install Value Pack on the same partition. Instead, the Value Pack is installed by default on the disk that contains the primary partition. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
Error:1008:-36 I/O Bad Disk

CAUSE

The Value Pack Installer does not search for the location of the previously installed instance of Office 2001, and it does not allow you to select an install location other than the primary partition.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
