When you attempt to receive e-mail messages from MSN, The
Microsoft Network, by using a Pocket PC (PPC) device, you may receive the following error message after the MSN server checks for Secure Password Authentication (SPA):
Inbox
Can't initialize service. Could not establish remote connection.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because the MSN e-mail message server uses a unique security feature, SPA. Only Outlook Express, Outlook, and Hotmail works with SPA and can retrieve MSN e-mail messages. The original mail client for the PPC device does not support SPA and cannot retrieve MSN e-mail messages.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, install the MSN E-mail for Pocket PC add-on to retrieve MSN e-mail messages. This add-on modifies your PPC Inbox to work with the MSN SPA-Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) server. MSN Email Pocket PC add-on download if available online.
