To view a Microsoft Support WebCast about what to do if you cannot receive your MSN e-mail messages in Outlook or Outlook Express, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to receive e-mail messages from MSN, The Microsoft Network, by using a Pocket PC (PPC) device, you may receive the following error message after the MSN server checks for Secure Password Authentication (SPA):
Inbox Can't initialize service. Could not establish remote connection.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the MSN e-mail message server uses a unique security feature, SPA. Only Outlook Express, Outlook, and Hotmail works with SPA and can retrieve MSN e-mail messages. The original mail client for the PPC device does not support SPA and cannot retrieve MSN e-mail messages.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, install the MSN E-mail for Pocket PC add-on to retrieve MSN e-mail messages. This add-on modifies your PPC Inbox to work with the MSN SPA-Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) server. MSN Email Pocket PC add-on download if available online.

MORE INFORMATION

You can install the MSN E-mail for Pocket PC add-on like any other PPC program. There are not any new options or menu items displayed in your Inbox after you install the add-on. The MSN E-mail for Pocket PC add-on is displayed in the Remove Programs tool to indicate the add-on is installed.

NOTE: Although you can use MSN as your Internet service provider (ISP), you cannot receive MSN mail by using the Microsoft Windows CE Inbox. Windows CE version 2.0 can send e-mail messages when you use a Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) e-mail server. Windows CE cannot receive e-mail messages because MSN requires SPA and Windows CE uses clear text passwords.
