When you run the Active Directory Management Agent for the first time, it selects a domain controller to connect to within the forest. Typically, this is the closest available domain controller to the Microsoft Metadirectory Services (MMS) server where the Management Agent is created. In some Active Directory environments, it is advantageous to select a specific server in which to communicate.

Accomplishing the Task- Create and configure an Active Directory Management Agent.
- Run the Management Agent for the first time.
- Once one or more domains in the forest are discovered, select the Management Agent (MA).
- Find the Domain Container where you want to specify a specific domain controller. Select it and choose Properties from the action panel.
- In the Domain Controller Host Name box, type the fully qualified domain name of the domain controller you want to use for the discover.
- Click OK.
The Active Directory Management Agent automatically selects an alternative domain controller when the domain controller it normally communicates with is unavailable. When the domain controller becomes unavailable, a message appears in the operator's log at log level 1.
