This article describes how to use the Copy to Hard Disk feature in the Microsoft Encarta 2001 products listed at the beginning of this article.

To copy the contents of Microsoft Encarta Africana version 3, Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 2001, or Microsoft Interactive World Atlas 2001 from the corresponding Encarta 2001 CD-ROM to the hard disk:
  1. Run Setup to install the Encarta program that you want to copy to the hard disk.
  2. Quit all of the programs that are running on your computer.
  3. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Encarta, and then click the item that corresponds to the Encarta program that you want to copy to the hard disk:
    • Copy Encarta Africana to Hard Disk
    • Copy Encarta Encyclopedia to Hard Disk
    • Copy Encarta World Atlas to Hard Disk

  4. Click Next.
  5. Click Typical (recommended) to copy the Encarta program to the default folder, or click Custom to change the installation folder, and then click Next.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish the copy process.
NOTE: When you use Microsoft Encarta Reference Suite 2001 DVD-ROM version, you cannot copy Encarta Africana Third Edition, Encarta Encyclopedia Deluxe 2001, or Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2001 to the hard disk. In addition, you cannot copy Encarta Encyclopedia 2001 standard edition to the hard disk.

To copy the contents of Microsoft Encarta World English Dictionary 2001 from the Encarta World English Dictionary 2001 CD-ROM to the hard disk:
  1. Run Setup to install Encarta World English Dictionary 2001.
  2. Quit all of the programs that are running on your computer.
  3. Start Encarta World English Dictionary 2001.
  4. On the Tools menu, click Copy to Hard Disk.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish the copy process.NOTE: The Copy to Hard Disk command in Encarta World English Dictionary 2001 copies the dictionary and thesaurus to the hard disk, but does not copy the multimedia clips. To play a multimedia clip in Encarta World English Dictionary 2001, you must insert the Encarta World English Dictionary 2001 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
