Internet Explorer Hangs on Redirect from Novell Border Manager (269223)

SYMPTOMS

Internet Explorer 4.5.1 for Macintosh stops responding (hangs) when it receives an HTTP 302 redirect from a Novell Border Manager Proxy Server-based server.

CAUSE

Novell Border Manager Proxy Server uses a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Web page to gather logon credentials from the client. After the redirect is returned from the client, Internet Explorer hangs.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

Novell Border Manager Proxy Server issues an HTTP 302 return in response to the GET request for an Internet URL to redirect the client to an SSL authentication page. The Internet Explorer 4.5.1 client hangs before issuing the GET request for the SSL page.
