This article was previously published under Q269220 SYMPTOMS When you try to change the assignment for a mouse button on
one of the Microsoft IntelliMouse pointing devices listed in the "Applies to"
section, you may receive the following error message:
You must assign Click to another mouse button before you
can change this setting. CAUSE This behavior may occur if you try to assign all the
pointing device buttons to a function other than the primary mouse click
function.
Note You must always assign at least one button to use the primary
mouse click function for the pointing device to interact correctly with
your computer.RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, assign the primary mouse click
function to another button on your pointing device before you try to reassign
the button that is currently assigned to use the primary mouse click
function.
