Works Suite 2001: How to Completely Remove Works Suite 2000 (269199)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Microsoft Works Suite 2001 CD-ROM, you are able to remove every component included with Works Suite 2000 except for the basic Works 2000 program.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior and completely remove Works Suite 2000 before you install Works Suite 2001, follow these steps:
  1. Insert Disc 1 of the Microsoft Works Suite 2000 CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key as you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Works Suite 2000 from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type the following line in the Open box, and then click OK

    drive:\setup.exe

    where drive is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  3. Click Remove.
  4. Select a program to remove, click Continue, and then follow the instructions on the screen to remove the program.

    Repeat this step until you have removed all of the Works Suite 2000 programs.
  5. When the following message appears

    All components of Microsoft Works Suite 2000 have been removed.

    click Exit Setup twice.

    Note that Works 2000 still appears on the Start menu, and that all of the basic Works programs are still installed on the computer.
  6. Insert Disc 2 of the Microsoft Works Suite 2000 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  7. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  8. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  9. Click Microsoft Works 2000, click Remove, and then click Yes.

    NOTE: You may receive an error message stating that the Setup program could not be found; however, all of the Works 2000 basic programs have been removed from your computer.
  10. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
