SYMPTOMS

The Window Media Unicast Service cannot stream MP3 files with ID3v2 headers larger than 14 kilobytes (KB). The following error message occurs:
The system cannot find the file specified

CAUSE

The larger header causes the Nsum.exe file to incorrectly calculate the start of the audio data.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

NOTE: Windows Media Services version 4.1 is included as a component in Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server products. Therefore, this fix will be included in future service packs for Windows 2000. It can also be obtained from the Microsoft download servers.

Windows Media Services version 4.0 is an add-on for Windows NT Server 4.0 and Advanced Server. The fix for Windows Media Services 4.0 will not be included in any Windows NT 4.0 service pack. The fix can only be obtained from the Microsoft download servers.
