SYMPTOMS

When you install Windows 2000 Professional on a Dell Computer Corporation Dimension XPS computer that runs BIOS revision A07, after you restart your computer at the end of the installation, the keyboard and mouse may stop responding.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) does not function with the BIOS revision.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, upgrade the BIOS to revision A08 or later.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue may also occur in conjunction with the use of Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices such as a USB mouse or keyboard.
