Resetting SACL Tree May Disable Inheritance (269012)

SYMPTOMS

If you click to select the Reset auditing entries on all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable auditing entries check box on the Auditing tab in Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe), the child's Allow inheritable auditing entries from parent to propagate to this object check box is cleared.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, manually set the Allow inheritable auditing entries from parent to propagate to this object check box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
