OFF98: Error Message: Microsoft Office 98 Does Not Exist on the Target Machine (268970)

When you try to install the Microsoft Office 98 Updater (Microsoft Word 98/PowerPoint 98 Updater), and the following conditions are both true
- Office 98 is installed on a hard disk other than the current boot drive
-and- - You have successfully installed another Office 98 update
you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Office 98 does not exist on the target machine. No installation is necessary.
Exit this install by selecting "Quit" in this dialog and in the main installer dialog.
WORKAROUND
To install this update without an error message, do one of the following:
- Install Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition to the hard disk drive that contains the active System Folder.
-or- - Install an operating system on the disk drive where Office 98 is installed, and start from that disk.
NOTE: To change the volume or partition that your Macintosh starts from, open the Startup Disk Control Panel, and select the appropriate hard disk.
