The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5
This article was previously published under Q268903 SYMPTOMS
After you install the Modem Sharing Service Patch for Windows 2000 Professional Client Machines, and then try to establish a connection to the Small Business Server 4.5's Modem Sharing service using a NETMODEM USE command, you may receive the following error on the Windows 2000 Professional client:
NETMODEM USE is not supported on a modem-sharing server.
CAUSE
The Windows 2000 client computer should have the Serial Redirector (Serrdr.dll) installed. If this file failed to load into the %windir%\system32 directory, then the Windows 2000 Professional client computer fails to function as a modem-sharing client, generating the error shown in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, copy the Serrdr.dll file into the %windir%\system32 directory. You can find this file in the directory into which you extracted the Modem Sharing Service Patch for Windows 2000 Professional client computers (W2kMpClnt.exe).
MORE INFORMATION
This error can occur if you installed the modem-sharing client by right-clicking the Netsrdr.inf file and selecting Install.
