Message Box for Hibernation Displayed Briefly on Windows Millennium Edition (268899)

SYMPTOMS

If you put your computer in Hibernate mode, a message box is displayed briefly on the screen. The screen goes blank, and then you hear hard disk drive activity.

CAUSE

In most cases, the video adapter goes into Hibernation mode first, thus making it look like that the dialog only appears briefly. This behavior is to be excpected.

MORE INFORMATION

When you put your computer in Hibernate mode, Windows Millennium Edition (Me) writes a file called Vmmhiber.w9x to the hard disk drive. The Vmmhiber.w9x file contains information on current system processes and information in memory at the time the system is instructed to hibernate. This file is located at X:\%WinDir%\ (where X: is the drive that contains the Windows directory) and is a hidden file.
