  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q268881

SYMPTOMS

WMI event 43 may be generated in the System event log when the WMI service is started. The text of this event is similar to:
WMI ADAP failed to connect to namespace \\.\root\cimv2\MS_413 with the following error: 0x8004100e
The value "MS_413" is for the Dutch locale. The exact value in the event log is dependent on the default system locale that is selected.

CAUSE

This event is generated if the default system locale is changed from the default for the product language to another locale. WMI tries to connect to a namespace based on the code page of the system default locale. However, only the namespace for the language supported by the installation of Windows 2000 is installed on the computer. This is not actually an error and the event should not be generated.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
Date Time Version Size File name
   -------------------------------------------------------
   07/19/2000 03:22p 1.50.1085.0026 196,685 Winmgmt.exe

WORKAROUND

You can prevent this event from being generated by installing the Multilingual User Interface (MUI) for the locale supported by the default system locale selected. This installs the correct WMI namespace for the locale and prevents this event from occurring.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
