Visio5: Error 114 When You Open a Drawing That Was Created in a Newer Version of Visio (268823)

SYMPTOMS

When you open a drawing that was created in a newer version of Visio, you may receive the following error message:
An error (114) occurred during the action Open File.

This file cannot be opened because it was created with a newer or unrecognized version of Visio. For Visio upgrade information, contact Visio Customer Service at 1-800-24-Visio (1-800-248-4746).

RESOLUTION

Either upgrade to the latest version of Visio, or have whoever created the drawing resave the file in the Visio 5.0 format.

To save a Visio 2000 drawing in the Visio 5.0 format:
  1. Open the Visio 2000 drawing.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As.
  3. In the Save as Type box, click Visio 5 Drawing (*.vsd), and then click Save.
