ENT2001: IMAP Messages Are Not Marked As Read in Entourage (268701)

SYMPTOMS

If you use an Internet Messaging Access Protocol (IMAP) client on another operating system platform, read messages display as unread messages in Entourage.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Send & Receive command only delivers new messages. The command does not refresh your entire Inbox or IMAP folders.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following two methods to synchronize the two clients so that the read status of the messages appears the same when you view them from each client.

Method 1: How to Manually Synchronize the Message Status

To manually synchronize the message status, click Refresh Message List on the Message menu.

Method 2: How to Synchronize the Message Status with the Live Sync Option

The Live Sync option is implemented with IMAP configurations in Entourage and allows one folder in a set of IMAP folders to refresh as the status of its contents change. To configure the Live Sync option:
  1. In the Folder List pane, click the folder to which you want to configure the Live Sync option. If you do not see the Folder List pane, click Folder List on the View menu.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Accounts .
  3. Click the IMAP account, and then click Edit.
  4. In the Edit Account dialog box, click the Options tab.
  5. In the Server Options dialog box, click Live Sync. The default setting is Only Connect to Inbox.
You can also configure the Live Sync option to either connect immediately when you start Entourage, or to disconnect from Server Every <X> minutes. The default setting is for Entourage to synchronize every nine minutes.
