ENT2001: Text Styles Are Lost When You Paste Word Text in Entourage Messages (268659)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Entourage 2001 for Mac
  • Microsoft Exchange Update for Entourage X (Office v. X 10.1.4 Update)

This article was previously published under Q268659

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to paste text that you copied from a Microsoft Word 2001 document in an Entourage message that is in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) format, certain formatting is lost. Examples of lost formatting are styled and colored text, page indents, and Word-specific formatting such as strikethrough, subscripts, and superscripts.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use the Entourage HTML editor to format the Word text in the message. For more information about how to do this, view the "More Information" section in this article.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Both the underline and bold text attributes are preserved when you paste text from Word. Tab stops that you set in the Word document are lost when you paste text from Word to an Entourage HTML message, but spaces are substituted for the equivalent tab stop distance.

How to Create an HTML Message

To create an HTML message:
  1. Select the text in the Word document that you want to send, and then click Copy on the Edit menu.
  2. On the Entourage File menu, click New, and then click Mail Message.
  3. Click an empty area in the body of the message, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.
  4. Click the Tools menu, and then verify that HTML is selected.
  5. Use the HTML formatting tools to apply text styles and attributes to your text in the Entourage message.

Description of the HTML Formatting Tools

Entourage provides a set of HTML formatting tools in the body of an HTML message. These tools are not available in plain text messages. These tools include:
  • Font - allows you to select the typeface to use in the message.
  • Font Size - provides the following HTML sizes: largest, larger, medium, smaller, and smallest.
  • Formatting - provides the following options: bold, italic, underline, and teletype (monospaced).
  • Justification - provides the following options: align left, center, and align right.
  • Numbered List - applies sequential numbers to the selected list of items.
  • Bulleted List - applies a bullet to each line of the selected list of items.
  • Indents - provides increase and indenter decrease indents for paragraphs.
  • Font Color - applies colors from the Apple Macintosh color palette to selected text.
  • Background Color - applies color from the Macintosh color palette to the background of the message body.
  • Horizontal Line - applies a line as a separator in the body of the message.
