SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to save a Microsoft Works 6 Word Processor document as a Works 3.0 for Windows or Works 4.0 for Windows Word Processor document, you may receive an error message similar to the following
Works cannot save "drive:\path\file.wps". There may not be enough space on the computer or Works cannot save the file to the specified destination.
and you cannot save the file. NOTE: The error message may not always appear, in which case the document may appear to be saved, but it is not saved.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you attempt to overwrite an existing Works 6 Word Processor document with a Works 3.0 for Windows or a Works 4.0 for Windows Word Processor document.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, save the document to the same folder with a different file name, or save the document to a different folder. For example, if the path and name of the document is C:\My Documents\test.wps, save the document as C:\My Documents\test1.wps or as C:\My Works4 Documents\test.wps.

To change the path of a file that you want to save, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. In the Save As dialog box, type the name of the folder that you want in the Save in box.TIP: You can create a new folder for your document by clicking the Create New Folder icon to the right of the Save in box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Works 6.
