Works Suite 2001: Microsoft Money Tasks Do Not Work As Expected (268542)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start a Microsoft Money task from the Microsoft Works Task Launcher, you may receive an error message similar to one of the following:
  • This operation cannot be performed.

  • Internal application error.
In addition, the computer may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you have not created a Money data file or your Money data file is damaged, missing, or in an incorrect location.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start Money.

    You are prompted to open a file, create a file, or restore a file.
  2. Open, create, or restore a file.
When a Money file is open, the Money tasks in the Works Task Launcher work as expected.

MORE INFORMATION

This happens more often in a Windows 2000 environment. After opening, creating, or restoring a file, the problem is usually resolved.
