Works: Data Formatted to Use Euro Is Not Copied Correctly (268536)

SYMPTOMS

When you copy a Microsoft Works Spreadsheet column that has been formatted to use the Euro currency symbol (?), and then you paste the column to another Works Spreadsheet document that is also formatted to use the Euro currency symbol, the currency data is pasted as a dollar sign ($).

When you copy a Microsoft Works Database cell that has been formatted to use the Euro currency symbol (?), and then you paste the cell to a Works Spreadsheet cell that is also formatted to use the Euro currency symbol, the currency symbol is pasted as a dollar sign ($).

When you copy data that has been formatted to use the Euro currency symbol (?), and then you paste the data to an unformatted Works Spreadsheet file, the currency symbol is pasted as a dollar sign ($).

When you copy a Works Spreadsheet column that has been formatted to use the Euro currency symbol, and then you paste the column to another column in the same Works Spreadsheet file (formatted or not), the currency data is formatted with the Euro currency symbol.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, format the cell or column that has the incorrect monetary symbol after the data has been pasted.

To format a cell or column to use the Euro currency symbol, follow these steps:
  1. In Works Spreadsheet, select the column or cell that you want to format.
  2. On the Format menu, click Number.
  3. On the Number tab, under Select format type, click Currency.
  4. In the right pane, click to select the Use the Euro sign as the currency symbol [?] check box, and then click OK.

    The Euro currency symbol now appears in place of the dollar sign.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
