Member Is Not Deleted from Group When It Contains a Greater Than Character (>) (268490)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Site Server 3.0
This article was previously published under Q268490 SYMPTOMS
When you create a member that contains a greater than character ( > ) in its name, Site Server 3.0 prefaces the greater than character ( > ) with a backslash ( \ ). If you add this member to a group, and then delete this member, Site Server 3.0 does not remove the member from the groups that it belongs to.
The Site Server 3.0 documentation clearly documents the characters that can be used as an attribute for the CN (Common Name). The less than
( < ) and greater than ( > ) characters are considered to be valid characters that can be used for a CN in a Membership directory.
CAUSE
When a member is created that contains a greater than character ( > ) in the CN, Site Server populates the AdsPath and prefaces the greater than character ( > ) with a backslash ( \ ). For example, a member with a CN test>test has an AdsPath test\>test. When you delete a member from the directory, Site Server pulls the CN for the user, and then it searches all groups for this user. Because the AdsPath is used for the member when you add this user to a group, the values are not equal, and therefore Site Server is unable to remove the user from any groups.
