This article was previously published under Q268432 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Word 2001, if you print an envelope on a Hewlett Packard (HP) LaserJet 8100 printer, your envelope may be printed in portrait instead of landscape orientation. As a result, part of the text is not printed on the envelope.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods.
Use Settings from Your Printer- On the Tools menu, click Envelopes.
- Type your addresses in the Delivery address and Return address boxes.
- Click to select the Use settings from your printer check box, and then click Print to print the envelope.
Use Custom Page Options- On the Tools menu, click Envelopes.
- Type your addresses in the Delivery address and Return address boxes.
- Click Custom, and then click to select the correct Feed method and Envelope size check boxes according to your envelope print record. Click OK.
- Click Print to print the envelope.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Word 2001 for Mac. MORE INFORMATION
An envelope print record is a reference in a document, which contains information supplied by the printer driver. When an envelope is created using an envelope print record, it is usually not necessary to change the Feed method setting.
The print record is a portion of a document in which the Macintosh printer drivers store information. This information cannot be directly edited in Word, but it includes all of the relevant details about the print job being sent (such as page size, orientation, feed method, and so on). This information allows the printer to automatically print the page correctly without Word having to intervene.
However, if this method does not work, you can use Word's custom Feed method options to over-ride the information stored in the envelope print record. The custom Feed method options allow you to create an envelope using Word settings. If you print an envelope using this method, you simply position the text on the default-sized page, feed an envelope into the printer, and then print the envelope.
