WD2001: Only One Page Is Printed When You Print a Multiple-Page Word 5.1 Document (268430)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q268430

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word 2001, when you print a document that was created in Microsoft Word 5.1, in some cases only one or a few of the pages are printed, although Word reports that all of the pages were spooled.

For example, if you open a Word 5.1 document that is five pages long, and you click Print on the toolbar, only one page is printed.

CAUSE

Word 5.1 documents store a print record, which is the page range of the pages that were printed when the document was last printed. If only a subset of the document was selected the last time the document was printed, that subset is stored in the print record.

When the Print button is selected from the toolbar in Word 2001, the print record is used to print the document. Therefore, only the pages that were selected in the previous page range are printed when you send the document to the printer by clicking Print on the toolbar.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Click Print on the File menu to print your document, instead of clicking Print on the toolbar. -or-

  • Open the document by using Word 2001, and then save the document.

The document should now be printed correctly if you click Print on the toolbar, or if you click Print on the File menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Word 2001 for Mac.
