OFF2001: Several Instances of Installer Program Run When You Start Multiple Office Programs (268391)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q268391

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac, when you start more than one of the Office programs at the same time, the installer program may run once for each program that you start. This behavior occurs even though you answer all of the questions that the installer program prompts you for the first time that it appears.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
  • You have a new installation of Office 2001.
  • You have not yet started any of the programs in Office 2001.
  • You select more than one Office 2001 program.
  • You click Open on the File menu.
The first-run installation process starts the first time that you start any Office 2001 program after you perform a drag-and-drop installation of Office 2001. This process usually runs only once. However, if you start several Office 2001 programs at the same time, several instances of Setup run.

WORKAROUND

There is no workaround for this issue, but it causes no harm.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The first time that you start an Office program, a process called the first-run installation is started. The first run-installation process prompts you to enter required information, and it then copies files that are required by the Office programs to the System folder.
