Windows Millennium Edition Does Not Hibernate with Non-WDM Audio Drivers (268350)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q268350

SYMPTOMS

If there is a driver other than a Windows Driver Model (WDM) driver installed for the audio device, Microsoft Windows Millennium does not hibernate. In addition, the Nohiber.txt report indicates the audio device as the reason for the system not transitioning into hibernation.

CAUSE

Audio devices must have drivers that use WDM architecture exclusively. The manufacturer can either supply a WDM driver with the audio device or rely on a WDM driver provided with Microsoft Windows. Legacy sound cards work when WDM drivers are used for the device.

RESOLUTION

Contact the manufacturer of the device to obtain a WDM device driver.
