Game Voice Error Message: Cannot Find Msvcirt.dll or Msvcrt40.dll (268292)

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Microsoft SideWinder Game Voice software on a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Cannot find Msvcirt.dll.
Cannot find Msvcrt40.dll.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if either of the following conditions is true:
  • The Msvcirt.dll or Msvcrt40.dll files are missing or damaged.
  • The Compact installation option was selected when Windows 98 was installed on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click the Windows Setup tab.
  4. Click Accessories, and then click Details.
  5. Click to select the check box next to Imaging.

    NOTE: If this check box is selected, click to clear the check box, click OK, click Apply, and then repeat steps 4 and 5.
  6. Click OK, and then click OK again.
  7. Close Control Panel, and then restart the computer.
  8. Reinstall the SideWinder Game Voice software.
