Dlc.sys Driver Returns Wrong Values After SAP Limit Is Reached (268267)

SYMPTOMS

If a program such as Microsoft SNA Server uses the Dlc.sys driver and asks the DLC driver for a link station that goes over a supported number (such as the 256th link station), the Dlc.sys driver responds correctly with return code 0x57, but it sets the returned parameters in the wrong way. The SAP_STATION_COUNT that should be the actual number of stations that are allocated for the sap is incorrectly set to 0. This problem has been found by using the SNA Server Distributed Link Service (DLS) function to connect hundreds of remote servers to a central SNA Server. In the presence of network problems, the DLC_REALLOCATE requests to the central DLC driver may exceed the SAP-supported limit.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when the DLC driver general error handling code is processing the return buffers for an API such as DLC_REALLOCATE in a wrong format.

RESOLUTION

Windows 2000
