Works 6: Scatter Chart Causes Spreadsheet to Quit Unexpectedly (268192)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 6
- Microsoft Works Suite 2001
This article was previously published under Q268192 SYMPTOMS
When you create a Microsoft Works Spreadsheet document and you then attempt to create an X-Y scatter chart, Works Spreadsheet may quit unexpectedly and any unsaved data may be lost.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the range of the data value is very large and Works Spreadsheet is unable to plot the data.
With Works Spreadsheet charts other than the X-Y scatter chart, the following message appears when the data range is too large:
The axis range is too great.
With the X-Y scatter chart type, when the data range is too large Works Spreadsheet quits unexpectedly and there is no message.
RESOLUTION
To prevent this issue from occurring, test the chart data with the bar chart type. Do not attempt to use the X-Y scatter chart type if you receive the following message for the bar chart type:
The axis range is too great.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
