Works Suite Error Message: Open Database Connectivity Error (268191)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a mail-merge document in Microsoft Works Suite, you may receive the following error message:
Open Database Connectivity Error
Data Source Name not found and no default driver specified
When you click Details, you may receive the following error message
Microsoft Word
ODBC error: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]
Data source name not found and no default driver specified
Sql State: IM002
Return Code: SQL_ERRO
and you cannot create the mail-merge document.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
  • You did not start Word by using the Works Task Launcher.
  • Works Suite is installed on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, start Word from the Works Task Launcher. When you start Word, the Office Installer automatically starts and updates the Office installation.
