IntelliMouse: Cannot Assign a Game Action to the Fourth and Fifth Mouse Buttons (268057)

SYMPTOMS

When you use one of the Microsoft IntelliMouse pointing devices listed at the beginning of this article, you may be unable to assign a game action to the fourth or fifth mouse button.

RESOLUTION

To attempt to resolve this issue, assign the fourth and fifth mouse buttons to keys on the keyboard that are not assigned to a game action or to a Microsoft Windows command.

NOTE: You must install the IntelliPoint software before you perform these steps.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Mouse.
  3. Click the Buttons tab.
  4. Click a key on the keyboard that is not assigned to a game action or to a Windows command in the Large Thumb Button or the Left Side Button box.
  5. Click a key on the keyboard that is not assigned to a game action or to a Windows command in the Small Thumb Button or the Right Side Button box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Start the game that you are attempting to play, and then configure the keyboard and the pointing device assignments for the game.
  8. Assign the actions for which you want to use the fourth and fifth mouse buttons to the keys on the keyboard that you assigned to the buttons in step 4 and 5.
