To play Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome, you need:
  • Multimedia PC with Pentium 90 MHz or higher processor (Pentium 120 MHz is required for gigantic maps)
  • Microsoft Windows 95 or later operating system, or Microsoft Windows NT Workstation operating system version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later
  • Microsoft Age of Empires 1.0
  • 16 megabytes (MB) of RAM for Windows 95 or later; 24 MB of RAM for Windows NT (or for an 8-player multiplayer game in Windows 95/98
  • 235 MB of available hard disk space for a typical install (an additional 50 MB of available hard disk space is required for the swap file)
  • Double-speed (2X) or faster CD-ROM drive for gameplay, or a quad-speed (4X) CD-ROM drive for videos
  • Local Bus Super VGA video adapter with 1 MB of Video RAM and a color SVGA monitor
  • Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
  • DirectSound 5.0 API-compatible sound card with speakers or headphones for audio
Requirements for multiplayer play:
  • 28.8 Kbps modem (or higher recommended) for Internet or head-to-head play
  • Internet access required for Internet play. May require payment of a separate fee to an Internet service provider (ISP). Connect time charges may apply.
