Directory service client prevents Outlook 2000 from using "None" authentication to log on (267879)

Second Edition in a Mixed-mode Microsoft Windows 2000-based domain and you
attempt to connect to Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Server by using Microsoft Outlook
2000, you may not be able to log on successfully if the authentication mode is
set to None. You receive the following error message:
Unable to open your default e-mail folders. If you set the authentication mode
to NT Authentication, you can log on successfully. Note that if the directory service
client is not installed, you can log on by using either authentication mode.
RESOLUTIONNOTE: Microsoft recommends that you obtain and apply the update
described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base instead of
