ICS Host Attempts to Connect to the Internet When Trying to Play DirectPlay Games (267741)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q267741 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to play or join a DirectPlay game on a local area network (LAN) from a computer that is running Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), the Connect To dialog box may appear and prompt you to connect to the Internet.
Note: After the host connects to the Internet, the computer will join the game.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because you have enabled ICS and have set the dialing properties to Always dial my default connection. Because of this, the program searches all available interfaces on the computer. ICS detects this activity and assumes that the user or the client computer wishes to connect to the Internet.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, change the dialing properties:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Internet Options, and then click the Connection tab.
- Click the Never dial a connection or Dial whenever a network connection is not present.
- Click Ok.
