My Network Places Doesn't Function As Expected After Windows Millennium Edition Upgrade (267732)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q267732

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Microsoft Windows 98-based network computer to Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), computers that were listed in Network Neighborhood in Windows 98 may not appear in My Network Places in Windows Me.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because Windows 98 is designed to display the computers in your workgroup in Network Neighborhood; however, Windows Me is designed to display the workgroups in your network in My Network Places.

RESOLUTION

In Windows Me, to use My Network Places to view a list of those computers that you saw listed in Network Neighborhood in Windows 98 (before your upgrade), follow these steps:
  1. On the desktop, double-click My Network Places, and then double-click Entire Network.
  2. In the Entire Network window, double-click the workgroup that you want.
NOTE: The computers that were listed in Network Neighborhood appear in the Workgroup window.
