This article was previously published under Q267614

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based IBM ThinkPad 600X computer, you may be unable to receive a fax message when the computer is inserted into a docking station.

When your computer receives a fax transmission, the computer connects with the transmission, but before it begins to copy the fax message, you may receive the following error message:
R0llfax has caused an error in <unknown>. R0llfax will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.
This behavior does not occur when the computer is not in a docking station.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
  • You are using RingCentral Fax as the fax program.
  • The computer is docked in a SelectaBase3 docking station.
  • The computer is in standby mode when the fax transmission is received.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Remove the ThinkPad 600X from the docking station when you expect to receive fax messages.
  • Use a different type of docking station.
  • Do not allow the computer to go into standby mode when it is docked.
