The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q267529

SYMPTOMS

When you are using the Run from Systray option of Henter-Joyce JAWS version 3.5, you find that you do not have access to the menu items of the JAWS system tray icon. This prevents both your disabling the option and your closing the program. You may also be unable to start the JAWS program from the Start menu.

This behavior occurs under Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) but not under Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows 98.

CAUSE

The issue occurs because JAWS 3.5 is not compatible with Windows Me.

RESOLUTION

Contact Henter-Joyce to obtain JAWS version 3.7, which is advertised as being compatible with Windows Me.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, edit the User.ini file in the Jfw35 folder.
  1. Use any text editor (such as Notepad) to view the User.ini file in the Jfw35 folder.
  2. Change the ViewMode=1 entry to read ViewMode=0, save the changes to the User.ini file, and then quit Notepad.
  3. Restart your computer.
