PCI Device Is Displayed in the Network Configuration List Twice (267507)

SYMPTOMS

When you double-click the Network icon in Control Panel, the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) network adapter is listed twice in the Configuration list.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you move your PCI network adapter from one PCI slot to another PCI slot in your computer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, remove one of the duplicate network adapter items from the Configuration list. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Network.
  3. In the The following network components are installed list, click to select one of the PCI network adapters, and then click Remove.
  4. Click OK, and then click Yes to restart your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition.
