SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade your Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition-based computer to Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), event assignments that you have created for the buttons of your multi-button Hewlett-Packard (HP) scanner may not be retained.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, re-create the event assignments for the scanner buttons. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Scanners and Cameras, and then double-click Hewlett-Packard ScanJet xxxx.
  3. Click the Events tab, and then, in the Scanner events list, click the appropriate button.
  4. In the Send to this application list, click to select the check box of the program that you want to assign to the selected button, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

When you install a multi-button HP scanner, you can change the default program assignments of the buttons located on the front panel of the scanner. Doing this allows you to choose which program starts when a given scanner button is pressed.
