SYMPTOMS

When you create a shortcut by using the Create Shortcut Wizard, the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) or File Transport Protocol (FTP) location may be truncated.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the URL or FTP address contains spaces.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the desktop, click New, and then click Shortcut.
  2. In the Type the location of the item box, type the FTP or URL location with quotation marks, for example, "http://www.microsoft.com". Replace "microsoft" in this example with the appropriate Web site or folder name.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click Finish.

MORE INFORMATION

If an FTP or URL address contains spaces, the address is truncated at the first space even if the address is valid. This behavior does not occur on local files or folders.
