Internet Explorer View Source Does Not Remember the Save Path (267400)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q267400

SYMPTOMS

When saving Web pages in Microsoft Internet Explorer as .html files, the path remembered by Internet Explorer may include the path to the File name box of the Temporary Internet Files directory.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, you can either delete all but the file name for each occurrence, or you can select the desired directory by clicking Save in, which leaves only the file name in the File name box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me).

MORE INFORMATION

If you view the source in Microsoft Notepad, the drive letter is remembered at the top of the menu, however it always inserts the path to the Internet Explorer temporary directory and drive with the file name.

For example, after saving the source to another location, this is what Internet Explorer would put in the Save as box

C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\9WFICXVX\{file-name}[1]

and you must delete everything except the file name each time.
