Desktop Does Not Change to Windows Millennium Edition Theme After Upgrade (267390)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to change from the Microsoft Windows 98 More Windows desktop theme to the Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) desktop theme, the change may not be applied as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you upgrade from a Windows 98 Second Edition operating system on which the More Windows desktop theme has been applied.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Desktop Themes.
  3. Click Dangerous Creatures (256 color) in the Theme list box.
  4. Click Apply to apply the changes.

    Note that the Dangerous Creatures background and settings are applied.
  5. Click Windows Millennium (high color) in the Theme list box.
  6. Click Apply to accept the changes.

    Note that the Windows Millennium background and settings are applied.
  7. Click OK to close the Desktop Themes dialog box.
