"It Is Now Safe to Shut Down Your Computer" Is Not Displayed with Some Cirrus Logic Video Drivers (267335)

When you perform the shutdown procedure on a computer that is running Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), you may not receive the message that indicates when it it is safe to shut down your computer.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if you are using an older video adapter. Some drivers for these adapters cause the screen to display in text mode before the message appears. This is a limitation of the drivers in the Windows Me environment.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, install the latest driver for your video adapter or a standard video graphics adapter (VGA) driver. Updated drivers may be available directly from the adapter vendor. Some vendors provide updates that you can download directly from their Web sites. To install a standard VGA driver, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Display, and then click the Settings tab.
- Click Advanced, and then on the Adapter tab, click Change.
- Choose Specify the location of the driver, and then click Next.
- Select Display a list of all drivers, and then click Next.
- Select Show All Hardware.
- Click to select Standard Display Types from the list on the left.
- Select Standard Display Adapter, and then click Next to complete the installation.
You may receive a message stating that the driver you are installing was not written for the video board in your computer. Click Continue. - Restart your computer when you are prompted to do so.
