SUMMARY

This article describes how to manage the Block Senders list in Outlook Express.

NOTE: To use the Block Senders feature in Outlook Express, your e-mail server must be a Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) server. If your server is a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) server, such as Hotmail, or an Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) server, this feature is not applied.

MORE INFORMATION

How to Block Messages from a Sender or Domain

You can block messages from a particular sender or domain. The domain is the name that follows the @ symbol in an e-mail address.

When you block a sender or domain, you do not receive any e-mail messages or news messages from that sender or domain in your Inbox folder or in the news messages that you read. When you receive messages from blocked senders, the e-mail messages are sent directly to your Deleted Items folder, and the newsgroup messages are not displayed.

To block messages from a sender or domain:
  1. In your Inbox folder or in the list of messages in a newsgroup, click the message from the sender that you want to block.
  2. On the Message menu, click Block Sender.

How to Remove a Sender or Domain

To remove a sender or domain from the list:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Message Rules, and then click Block Senders List.
  2. Click the name or domain that you want to remove on the Blocked Senders tab, and then click Remove.

How to Change the Sender's Name or Domain

To change a sender's name or domain on the list:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Message Rules, and then click Block Senders List.
  2. On the Blocked Senders tab, click the name or domain that you want to change, and then click Modify.
  3. Make the changes that you want in the dialog box, and then click OK.

How to Add a Sender or Domain

To add a new sender or domain to the list:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Message Rules, and then click Block Senders List.
  2. On the Blocked Senders tab, click Add.
  3. Type the new information in the dialog box, and then click OK.
